Juul settles Washington state disposbale vape lawsuit for $22.5 million

U.S. disposable vape giant Juul Labs on Wednesday reached a $22.5 million settlement with Washington state to end a lawsuit accusing the company of illegally placing deceptive ads on underage consumers to boost sales of its vaping products .

Washington’s lawsuit, filed in 2020, alleges that Juul did not explicitly state that its products contained nicotine and “unlawfully sold hundreds of thousands of electronic products to Washington consumers for more than 20 months between August 2016 and April 2018.” Tobacco Products”.

Juul promised reforms in the settlement, including stopping all advertising that appeals to young people and stopping most social media promotions.

In June 2021, Juul reached a $40 million settlement with North Carolina over its marketing of products to underage users. As part of the deal, the e-cigarette maker agreed to stop all marketing to young people.
